dimes

Everything is relative. Everything.
When someone says you’re going too fast? Well, what exactly is too fast? 75 MPH is fast for some people, but not for other people.

Is that restaurant expensive? Well, it depends what “expensive” is.

Are you a picky eater? Well, it depends.

Is tracy a big city? Well, it depends.

Scott and I were talking about this the other day, but it always makes me think. A good example is a slam-dunk contest. I was watching some high school dunk contest on ESPN, tyreke and Brandon Jennings were giving 10s like it was nothing. Basically, all of the judges were stupid. In the first round, there should be no scores of 10, or even 9. But why? Ok, so this is an exaggeration, but let’s say Blake Griffin jumps from half court and dunks the ball, he should be given an 8, or even a 7. That doesn’t seem right? But yeah, think about it, what if he dunks from ¾-court in the next round, the score SHOULD be higher than the half court dunk. Therefore, you can’t give a 10 because then you can’t correctly reward a better dunk. I probably didn’t explain very well. But let’s just say if Blake dunks from half court, I would completely understand if a judge gave him a 6. He would just have to compare the remaining dunks to this scale. (assuming the scale were 1-10)

Same with rating girls, everyone asks what would you rate that girl? Well, you can’t really answer that, a 7 in my eyes is probably not going to be a 7 (solid seven?) in your eyes. In my eyes, I think Minka Kelly is the best looking girl on the planet right now. But I can’t really give her a 10, what if I see a Minka Kelly look-a-like with slightly bigger eyes? I would have to give her a higher score, but I can’t because I gave a 10 to Minka. So if I ask someone what would you rate Minka Kelly, and he says 7. He is either extremely smart or extremely stupid. If you wanted to be politically correct (wtf), you would say “what would you rate that girl if Girl X is a 7?” Geez, talk about over-analyzing. I know Jill is probably thinking to herself ‘just shut up grant, no one cares.’

In conclusion, what would I rate Minka Kelly? She’s a 10, hands down.

TOP TEN CHILDREN'S MOVIES

Disney Channel original movies do not count, or else Horse Sense would be in the top 10. Cutting it down to 10 was extremely hard, so i just ranked them based on how excited i would be if they were on tv. That's why Home Alone 2 is not in the top ten, it's on ABC family all the time, so nothing special. Close calls were Jingle all the way, Camp Nowhere, 3 Ninjas, Angels in the Outfield, Little Big League, Rookie of the Year, Getting Even with Dad, Mrs. doubtfire, Lassie, First Kid, Space Jam, Leave it to Beaver, Surf Ninjas.

10. Jungle to Jungle- I'm a huge Tim Allen fan, so of course I loved this movie. “your female makes good food baboon”

9. Milk Money- I'm surprised that more people don't know about this movie. But it's basically about 3 young kids that save up money then go to the city to try and see a naked girl. lol it's on youtube, watch it!
“hey dad look, over there, it’s a girl, what do you say? -Thank you"

8. Little rascals- Too many good quotes in this movie. Watching this with JT was priceless!
"if you were my kids, I would punish you. If we were your kids, we would punish ourselves"

7. Little giants- One of the few movies we had on VHS, so it got lots of PT.
"hey hot hands, you’re the best player on our team"

6. Good burger- i remember wanting to learn the dance when they are in that psycho hospital.
"I don’t remember what my dad looks like either, but at least I get to see him everyday."

5. Heavyweights- I was a little "husky" growing up, so this movie is extra funny now.
"lunch has been cancelled today, due to lack of hustle"

4. Sandlot- Just an amazing movie.
"yeah, she even signed her name on it. Some lady named ruth, baby ruth"

3. Ninja turtles 2- I had this on VHS, and every time Scott came over, we would watch it, EVERYTIME. i'd set the line at 32.
"take the ugly one, no you take the ugly one, which one’s the ugly one?"

2. Blank check- making and spending a million dollars in a week is still a dream.
"juice? No thanks I’m not thirsty"

1. Big- Another VHS movie. I can't watch this movie and be unhappy. just amazing.
"did you pledge? Yes, every morning."

all blogged out, no more

dual laskos

You can’t do the same things and expect different results.
I think that^ is very important in many different scenarios, here are two.

I love Mark Cuban. He’s so passionate about winning. His goal is obviously not to just go deep in the playoffs, but to win a championship. He understands that if his team doesn’t win a championship, he needs to make changes in order to give his team a chance. Some of the moves help the team, and some don’t. But he’s not just going to sit back and hope for better results.

My house is pretty cold. I have one Lasko portable heater to help make it warmer, but it’s still cold. So I decided to buy another Lasko portable heater for more warmth. At the moment, I’m running a dual monitor set-up for poker. And I’m packing a dual heater set-up for the coldness. How sick would 3 heaters lined up in a row be?hmm it would be pumping straight HEAT.
____

My mom's side of the family meets for Christmas eve dinner every year. So i asked her where dinner was this year and she said "our house" and then semi-yelled "that's why i told you to clean your room, you weirdo!"

____

I'm ready for a new watch. i've bought 3 in the past 2 years. I haven't wore my movado watch since the summer. I'm officially over stainless steel watches, i just don't like them anymore. I want another all black watch, or a stainless steel face with a black leather/rubber band. Or I want a gold face with a brown or black band. If money wasn't a problem, i'd be looking at a Piaget or Raymond Weil. I think Raymond Weil Freelancer series is my favorite collection of watches i've seen in a while

he looks very flat-footed out there

"lol. two months? its not that hard is it?" -Greg

Well, I can say (with 100% certainty) that I've never ran a 7:30 mile. I've never even ran an 8 minute mile. I've never been super quick or fast, and I think my flat feet don't really help. Good shape? bad shape? I've been in tennis-shape my whole life (doubles tennis to be exact). So not that hard? It'll be hard for me, but everything is relative.

greg, you should go for the 7:30 mile too, yea?

beat that you little trout sniffer lol

Scott and I have a little exercise prop bet. In 2 months, we have to be able to run a mile in 7 minutes 30 seconds. If one of us completes it, and the other one can't, the loser buys dinner.

No matter the outcome, it will definitely get us in better shape. Therefore, no losers in this bet. I have yet to see what my mile time is, it's been raining every time I plan to go to the track.

8MPH = a 7:30 mile

I think it's highly unlikely that I am able to do it. But from what i've learned from reading Option Volatility & Pricing from Sheldon Natenberg, DO NOT CONFUSE HIGHLY UNLIKELY WITH IMPOSSIBLE.

and from what i've learned from Little Giants, even if we can't run a 7:30 mile 99 times out of 100, that still leaves one time...one time!

numbers don't lie

3.5 ft- length of Subway sandwiches I eat in an average week. Italian BMT or Sweet Onion Chicken Teriyaki

6 billion – Have you heard of Groupon.com? Google offered to buy it for $6 billion, and the CEO said lolno. For $6 billion!!!?? I can’t even comprehend how much a billion dollars is. A thousand million, multiplied by SIX?

21- the amount of times I’ve heard “So what do you do all day?” in the past 3 months. Lol It’s a great question, but yeah, I think I answer it differently every time.

2.5 – average amount of times I check scottmizuno.com daily for updates.

3.9 billion- amount of money it took to complete the new Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas. The 2,995 room hotel/casino is the newest high-end casino in Vegas. From the pictures and what I’ve read, it’s basically the poor rich-man’s City Center.

.279- field goal percentage for my espn league last night that had 7 players active.

6 out of 10- How excited I am to see this reality show. It looks very exaggerated and over-the-top, but what reality show isn’t?

duff stuff

"And at least you believed in Santa for a little bit. I think my parents killed that for me the moment I discovered who Santa even was. :/" -Jamie

this is so funny and super sad at the same time lol. I can just imagine a young excited little Palmdale Jamie who just learned about Santa and then going to ask her Daddy if he is in fact real. And then Daddy tells Jamie the hard truth, and little jamie looks up very dejected and says "oh...so...so Santa's not real? oh...okay." and just walks back to her room. lol i don't know, it's just what i see in my head

But anyway, my dad is so goofy funny. Long story short, I was planning to go to SF to job shadow my cousin who is a stock options trader. He wakes up around 3:30 or 4 and arrives at work around 5ish. But anyway, I was complaining (like I always do) SARCASTICALLY, and said "How am I ever going to wake up at 3:30 in the morning!?" Without hesitation, my dad reaches to his phone clip, takes his iphone out, and points to the screen and says "just use your iphone, you can use it as an alarm clock to wake yourself up, I'll show you" hahahhahahah he was dead serious, and I just start laughing hysterically. I guess he thought I was really asking how I was going to wake up, literally. hahha maybe you had to be there. but i hope i never forget this

corner pocket

-same story, different year. In my yahoo fantasy bball league last year, I didn't make 1 transaction for the first couple months and was in 1st place for most of the season. Playoff time comes, first round bye, second round exit. So far this year, I haven't made a transaction yet, and sit in 1st place. Blah, I like my team, but the regular season means nothing.

-I had a dream last night. I went on a date with Kim Kardashian to this movie or a show type event. For some reason, other people didn't notice she was famous. But anyway, she was telling me over and over that I was sweet and we were seeming to get along great. I was wearing my purple DC sweatshirt and I guess I took it off. (I can't find that damn sweatshirt by the way, or my ipod, or my red vans sweatshirt that I love) And for some reason, I took it off and it went missing. I went to go look for it but I couldn't find it. When I got back to our seats, Kim wasn't there. I tried to look for her, but couldn't find her for the rest of the night. She was upset with me for leaving her. So another day, I see her before she was about to go on stage for something. We said hi to each other, and before she walked on stage, I told her that I wish I could have changed how the other night went, she smiled and said "me too", then walked on stage and that's all I remember.

hmm, I can't make this stuff up

-i'm going to start drinking coffee
-i wonder when i'm going to stop watching MTV, 25 years old? 30? Not that I watch 16 and Pregnant every Tuesday night or anything, but this season is very forgettable.
-Intervention is such a good TV show
-i miss baseball so much
-i think i misplace my ipod every week or so. but this has been the longest since i've gone without it. I haven't used it in 2 weeks
-Black eyed peas-- time of my life is tied with 'no americano' as the best dance song
-i find it really interesting to hear how people found out that Santa is not real. Derek made me a non believer by 2nd grade, maybe even 1st. He cleverly showed me Santa's handwriting and my Mom's handwriting.

...now what?

There is a new poker bill circulating in the United States Congress that would legalize and regulate online poker in the US. YAY! good news, more fish! more money! WOOOOOO! This is what poker players have been waiting for since 2006 (when the UIGEA was passed and sites like PartyPoker left the US player pool)

However, if the bill passes, there would be a 15-month blackout where no online poker would be legal within the United States. UH OH. Noooooo! This means no Full Tilt Poker and no PokerStars for 15 months!!!! fifteen months!?!

I'm pretty sure anyone who reads my blog could not care less, buuuuuut, if you're curious, here is a longer explanation.

http://www.husng.com/content/new-us-poker-legislation

I guess a blackout would not cut off my poker playing completely, i could still play on bodog and cereus. However, the ratio of winning players to every losing player would make it more difficult to make the MONIEZ.

one big sweat

The Buried Life on MTV has inspired me.

Before I die, i want to attend a professional sporting event and bet $1k on the outcome. If I win, donate $500, and spend the rest on something absolutely ridiculous.

Miami Heat vs Cleveland Cavaliers - Lebron James - Will Lebron James have a physical altercation with a fan? +2500
*Bodog's decision is final. Must get fined by NBA for incident for Yes to be graded as winner.
^^I'm kind of excited for this game

Watching Jeremy Lin miss 3 consecutive free throws against the Spurs was brutal. I haven't bought any of his basketball cards on ebay because i figure that all the crazy Asian fans would overpay for the first couple sets. Buuuuuuuuut, I think it's finally time to go crazy.

Everyone should watch the season finale of The Buried Life on MTV. It's one of the more entertaining hours of television i've seen in a while. Their goal in this show is to make a million dollars in one month. The show ends with a scene in Vegas with a couple roulette spins for some serious $$$. I think/hope the roulette spins were real.

overrated

-I've never really experienced black friday shopping until this year. and it is very very overrated. I walked into Banana Republic and the guy told me the whole store was 40% off. so I kind of went crazy there. But after that, i lost some steam. fun day tho i'd say.

-It's freezing in Tracy. I'm not sure if it's always this cold in November, but it is freeeeeezing, and my Grandma's house is not the most insulated house in Tracy. In the morning the other day, my thermostat read 49 degrees! Fortunately, i have a Lasko portable heater that i carry around with me like an oxygen tank.

-The other day I was helping my dad get Christmas stuff down from the attic. He uses this really old shaky wooden ladder. He asked me to hold the ladder because it was shaking too much. I asked him why he didn't just buy a new one, but he said because it still works. But, isn't a ladder something you should replace BEFORE it breaks? Once it breaks, you break. But seriously, it's like texting while driving. It's no big deal until that one time a car in front of your breaks suddenly. In all seriousness, I need to break this bad habit of mine.

-I wonder how much my field goal percentage dips when someone is within 3 feet of me. It's so weird. I think i'm a decent warm-up shooter, but if someone just stands by me (and even if they don't try and block it), I think my FG% drops like 15% or so. The last time I played bball, I shot like 2-16, no exaggeration. I had the ugliest possession of my career, I missed like 4 put backs in a row.

nose

-I don't know ONE person that watches the Simpsons. I don't think i've ever watched an episode. But it's been on for yearssss. So who watches it?

-There is a new WSOP main event winner, and like always, he is sponsored by PokerStars.

-I made the mistake of watching Paranormal Activity 2 on Saturday. I'm dead serious, it was a mistake. Maybe it's just because i'm living by myself in an old country house, but I'm pretty sure this was the scariest movie i've ever seen. Ugh, so i get back to my house Saturday night, and close the garage. But on Sunday, I go to drive my car, and the garage door is open. ughhhhhhhhhhhh I hate it. if it happens again, i'm moving out

-I think in fantasy basketball, you're either a points and rebounds guy, or a steals and blocks guy. I'm definitely a steals and blocks guy. Jeremy Lin with 2 steals and 2 blocks! Soooooo sick

unbelievable

I can’t describe how I feel right now. For every game during the playoffs, I have jumped up and down, and lost my voice nearly each game. But for game 5 of the WS, I never yelled or jumped around. I think I was just in shock. After the game, I just kept shaking my head in disbelief.

I think I’m happier for my Dad and my uncles. They are all legit fans who have watched Giants baseball since they were kids. They watch every game and fall asleep in the 7th inning because they are tired from working hard all day. I still remember when hinske hit his homerun for the Braves to take a 3-2 advantage in the bottom of the 8th. I just kept asking my dad “how do you watch the giants year after year?”
This team was truly special. Everyone says their team is special, but it’s nothing compared to this Giants team. They were pretty big underdogs to the Phillies, and won that series 42. Then they were underdogs to texas, and dominate them to win in 5 games. It’s just amazing.

the past couple months have not been the easiest for a couple of reasons. But the Giants have been that little distraction. My dad and I don’t really see eye to eye on a lot of things. But, during the past 2 months, we have watched lots of games together and were able to talk about the Giants nearly every day. I’ll never forget this, but whenever the opposing team makes an error, my dad yells “dumbass, you dumbass".

There are just too many good stories with this team. It’s crazy to think that I’ll remember every player on this team until the day I die. I’m so happy for Renteria and Rowand. I would always talk shit about both of them because of their age and being overpaid. But wow, MVP of the world series! I’ll never forget Rowand gunning the runner out at home in the NLCS. Freddy Sanchez with 4 hits in game 1 and awesome defensive plays throughout the postseason. Brooks “hot hands” Conrad. Aubrey Huff had some huge hits the whole season. Juan Uribe’s game winners in 2 games of the NLCS. Javier Lopez being completely nasty from the bullpen. Brian Wilson, easily my favorite player! Buster posey being a stud. Bumgarner being nasty in game 4. Awesome story of Andres Torres. Timmy outpitching cliff lee twice. cody ross stepping up. i'll never forget going to the playoff games with andy scott and corinne.

To be honest, I didn’t cry after the game. But I was definitely emotional. This team was just so special in so many ways. I was a little sad after the game. I just want to keep watching this team play. It’s so amazing how much ESPN and the MLB network hates the Giants. Before every game on TBS and Fox, those damn announcers would never pick the Giants to win. They pretty much brainwashed me into thinking the giants had absolutely zero chance of winning the NLCS, and then the World series. I’m not 100% positive, but I think the Giants were the underdog in 10 of the last 11 games.

I would always talk shit about zito. But I mean, yeah, he hasn’t performed the way people thought when he signed his big contract. But then again, look at all the guys on this team who are extremely underpaid. I don’t know a lot about contracts and free agents and whatnot, but wow, the young starting pitchers combined with Buster is very fun to think about in the future.

This is really jumbled, but whatever. The main purpose of my blog is for me to read 5-10 years from now.

lizard

so i was walking toward the family room to eat lunch and i found a lizard chilling by the window. WTF! Yes, I found a lizard INSIDE my house. I couldn't believe it. It was a little baby lizard, but a lizard nonetheless!

I caught it and put it in a jar and debating whether to boil it, microwave it, or let it go. I killed a fly and put it in the jar for him to eat until i make the "decision".

On another note, i think i'm going to buy a BB gun or something. There's so many things to shoot in the backyard.

woo

it's interesting how the Giants were the underdog (according to bodog) in every single game during the NLCS.

and in game 1 on Wednesday too

Friday, October 22, 2010

I wish I had a smaller head, 7.5 inches is just ridiculous.

The Giants are now 1-3 in the last 4 games I’ve been to, and two of those losses were possible clinchers too. Ughh

I was frustrated toward the end of the game. There was an older female Philly fan (probably 52 or 55 years old) walking up the steps and I told her she was old and had wrinkles.

At the bar, we saw Carlos Mencia, I’ll post a picture later. I told him he’s not funny at all.

Andy and I drank a fair amount before the game and on our way to the ball park we would ask Giants fans “who was pitching?” It was hilarious to see people’s reactions. As soon as we got to our seats, I asked the lady sitting next to us who was starting for the Giants, she hesitated, laughed, and said Timmy. I turned to Andy and said “hey, Timmy’s pitching!” This sounded funnier in my head, but maybe you had to be there.

If I hear this song, I have to start dancing, no matter what. I’m dead serious. Most people know by 'beats playlist', and if that playlist were a baseball team, this song would be batting clean-up.

After the game, we went to this bar that had ZERO people in it when we got there. We get a drink, then Ashkon comes in. It was pretty cool to see him. Then 3 buses come and drop off Berkley students. It was crazyyy.

Just so I don’t forget the inside jokes in 3 years: Freddy and mac n’ cheese, Foster’s, ‘don’t eff w/ my money’

i want to learn how to dougie, seriously, kind of

The playoffs have been awesome. However, a new goal in my life is to go to a postseason Giants game and be able to see the scoreboard. For game 1, scottmizuno.com and i were sitting in section 335 where you can't see left field or the scoreboard. But we couldn't care less. We saw the Braves swing and miss very clearly. When Buster hit his double, I thought it was a home run (we couldn't see where the ball landed), so i stupidly ran into the aisle and started celebrating like crazy only to look back at the field and see Buster legging it out to 3rd. It was very embarrassing, but I didn't care at the time.

In game 2, we were in the left field bleachers and there was a wall blocking the scoreboard completely. That game was awesome for the first 7 innings, then shit happened.

Game 3 was crazy, I remember thinking there was a 0% chance that we would win after Hinske hit his home run. I was already thinking of what to say to people. I was also thinking of excluding myself from watching sports in general for X amount of time. But wow, I was extremely wrong. I get goosebumps when i watch the highlights of Sanchez sliding home and fist pumping.

This series was very stressful, but i think it was more stressful because the Giants were the favorite to win the series. I think it would have been different if the Giants were the underdog. I'm not sure what i'm trying to say.

I found out the address to my house, 28966 S. Ahern Road

10-9

-Jamie, I didn’t see Paranormal Activity 2, just the preview. But if (WHEN!) you see where I’m currently living, you’ll understand why the preview is enough to put scary thoughts in your mind.

I have proof that I’m not meant for the “working world.” I was fortunate enough to talk to a financial planner and had him review my resume. So he called me and we talked for a few minutes and then this happened:

Peter: Can you come meet me at my office so we can talk.
Me: Yes
Peter: Ok, how about Thursday?
Me: (I cringe) Oh, I’m actually going to the Giants game.
Peter: Oh ok, no problem, how about Friday?
Me: (I cringe even more ) Oh, I’m actually going to the giants game on Friday too.
Peter: wtf

Just kidding about the last comment, but yea, he was nice about it, and we agreed to meet on Friday at 10am.

and Jill, I did NOT think of you when I saw this video. Be careful tho

check out her sandals when she falls hahah, it's not funny though

10-4

So my voice is at an all-time low. I’ve been a little sick for the past week or so and it didn’t get any better this weekend. Went to the Giants game on Friday hoping they would clinch the NL West, but it wasn’t meant to be. The biggest sporting event I’ve ever attended, combined with an open bar (pregame) led to lots of fun but no voice. I actually forgot to eat at the game, and woke up around 9AM the next morning nearly starving. I drove to Subway, but they were closed, so I went to a Mexican restaurant and finished 2 burritos. I surprised myself, and then I went home and slept for another 3 hours. My goal for the next 3 days is to recover, get better, and prepare for game 1 and 2. Sec 335 for game 1 and 142 for game 2!

World of Jenks. I’m not sure if anyone watches this show on MTV, but it’s been pretty interesting. And next week, he is going to document a poker player, Nick Schulman, I can’t wait to see it.

I enjoy living at my new house. It’s very nice to be the king of the castle for once. However, I’m not sure I’ll ever get used to the weird noises the house makes, especially at night. Sometimes, it sounds like someone is walking on the roof. And one time, I was playing poker at night, and it sounded like someone tapped on the window behind me. I don’t think I’ve ever felt so paralyzed. Honestly, I didn’t move for about 15 seconds. And it doesn’t help that it’s October and all these movie previews on tv are for these dumbass scary movies. Let me in? Case 39? Saw 3d? and I just saw a new one, Paranormal Activity 2?! Ughhh

This had me laughing so hard

He was a losing sng player, so I’d have to say his line is pretty bad. However, if he had been a winning player, I’d say his play is genius. It’s weird how that works, but I really thought that he had a missed flush draw, something like 910 of clubs, which I would beat. He would never do this with a Jack or 8. he just owned me

autumn

bodog is having a poker tournament series (Bodog Poker Open V). I played in today’s $25+ 2.5 buy-in which had a $5k guarantee (which it didn’t quite meet) and was lucky enough to get 3rd for $645. Such a swingy tournament, in the first 15 minutes of the tournament, I was all-in for my life w/ AJ versus Aces. I rivered a flush to stay alive, donkkkk. It’s so disgusting how much luck there is in tournaments. But anyway, I was chipleader w/ 8 left in the tourney, but lost a few pots and was the short stack 3-handed.

I eventually lost w/ AJ when the big blind had AK.

The other 2 players had very limited sng experience (at least on bodog). I am pretty confident that I would have had a decent edge on both of them if we got to heads-up play. But, it wasn’t meant to be and I was very very very lucky to get 3rd. 2nd paid $1,050 and 1st paid $2k. Binking the tourney would have been pretty sweet, but blah.

thinking about making an exercise bet. I'm thinking I have to work out 4 days a week (basketball counts as a day) for the next month. for every day i fall short, i have to do something/donate $/or pay someone. Or I could so something like, if i fail to do X, I have to draft Spencer Hawes in the 3rd round of every fantasy basketball league that I am in this year.

Mark Sanchez ftw

It’s official, I am the biggest nerd ever. I purchased sports cards for the first time in probably 6 or 7 years. I subscribe to bmwdroptp7, a card collecting Asian youtuber from Philly. He made some mystery packs that included some big hits including autos of Lebron, Peyton, and Magic Johnson. Each pack was $50, or 2 for $95. I couldn’t resist, so I bought one, and this is what I got. I’ve watched the video probably 10 times, I just think it’s weird/hilarious when he says my name. And no, I wasn’t in the blog tv room? Or whatever it’s called. Start at 1:30.

It wasn’t one of the biggest hits, but at least I’ll get my money back if I decide to sell the Sanchez auto.

^ I found that when there are 4 to a suit on board, and the opponent bets pot or close to it on the turn, it’s a bluff. Most players, if they have the nut flush, will check the turn to try and slowplay, and then bet big on the river.

the dog days are over...

“@ the pawn stars, its better to sell at 20% because it is more efficient for their time. they dont want a bunch of 2 dollar profits when they can have a few 5 dollar ones and make almost the same money for way less than half the time and effort.
btw, you got a car AND moved out?”

I guess I didn’t really talk about the car or moving out. Well, my Jimmy had been slowly dying for the past 6 months. I went to the mechanic and they said that my transmission needed to be replaced and that it wasn’t worth fixing. Therefore, the car search started. My only requirement for a car was that it had to have good gas mileage. So, I had been looking for a week or two and my Dad told me that I had to buy a car soon because he was going to be busy because the tomato harvest was going to start soon. So, one day, my dad came home from lunch and said let’s go to Tracy Honda to test drive some cars. So, I reluctantly said yes, but I clearly told my dad “I am just looking at cars today, but I’m not going to buy a car.” He said ok, blah blah blah.

So long story short, we test drive a nice 07 Accord, and when the sales lady stepped out of the car, my dad turns to me and says “ok, so you’ll buy this car, and we’ll try and get $1,000 for your Jimmy” I was like wtf Clark! I told him I didn’t want to buy a car today, but damn, my dad has the worst A.D.D. ever. He pretty much talked me into it and 5 hours later, no more Jimmy. (I miss Jimmy a lot, I kind of just want to know where he ends up, oh well) Everyone says that they can’t picture me without Jimmy. But anyway, I thought I would be happy with a new car, but I didn’t feel very good for the next week. I kept checking my online bank statements, just in case there was a mistake and the cashier’s check didn’t get accepted for some reason, and maybe I had just “stolen” the car. But, no such luck, I felt poor. But a month later, I’m loving the car.

So when they appraised poor Jimmy, they came back and told me that if I wanted to trade him in, I would have to pay Tracy Honda $25. They explained that they could sell the car for $1500 but needed $1525 worth of repairs. So I told her there was about $40 worth of gas in there, she didn’t find that very funny. But anyway, we ended up getting $300 for him, or maybe $350, I forgot already.

And yes, I moved/got kicked out of my parent’s house. I’m living at my grandma’s house and so far, so good. I have internet and cable and 3 rooms to myself. So far, the internet has not let me down, I’m crossing my fingers that it doesn’t go down when I’m playing poker. However, the house is extremely old and the middle of nowhere, with no neighbors. At night, the house makes some occasional weird/creepy noises. If someone wanted to, they can scare the living shit out of me. If it’s late, and someone just knocks on my door, I’m calling 911 immediately, without hesitation. Thinking about it now, I don’t even know the address to this place.

And for the pawn stars question, I think we can debate this all day. I agree with you that they would rather have a few $5 profits than a lot of $2 profits because of efficiency. However, the one piece of information is how many items are being bought/sold. I mean, for this little competition, they didn’t mention anything besides profit margin. Therefore, if I sat at work all day and purchased 3 items in a week, and my profit margin was 40%, my co-worker that has a lower profit margin but more volume, would be more valuable to the company that I was. My only point is that it’s not ALL about profit margin.

^This hand makes me wonder what some people are thinking when they are playing poker. I understand his turn bet was a bluff, but when I raise, why on earth would you call? But anyway, this is a good example about how to explain expectation. When all the chips go in, I have 90.9% equity to my opponent’s 9.1% equity. In this case, I won the hand, and you may say “yea, of course you won, no big deal, you were supposed to win that pot” However, by winning this pot, I am running ABOVE EXPECTATION. Of the $60 pot, my opponent was supposed to be awarded 9.1% of 60 dollars. I feel that lots of people do not understand expectation, when you win 3 of these in a row, you are running above expectation, and you basically owe some “expectation” back to your opponents. Hmm, I wonder if this made sense, or if everyone knows this already.

^Easy game lol, I kind of felt bad for this guy, he had been playing solid for about 15 minutes, then he decides to do this, and I have Ace Ace. Last night, I think I played some of the worst players I’ve ever played before. I’m pretty sure it was the most I’ve ever won online, excluding multi-table tournaments. Unfortunately, I know that the downswing is inevitable.

something else pretty Big happened in my life, which i do not wish to put in here. i'm sure most people know, but it's been hard to tell everyone. so just ask me if you don't know.

sam the man!

Was watching a re-run of pawn stars today and it was the one where the Dad and Son had a competition, whoever had the highest profit margin for the month won a prize. The Dad ended up winning, but this is all wrong, at least in my opinion. Although profit margin is important, it doesn’t maximize profits. Let’s say you buy/sell 20 items in their business at a profit margin at 20%. That is NOT more profitable than say buy/sell 50 items at a profit margin of 15%. I don’t know, but in my opinion, they are looking at things all wrong.

I already have a new crack in my damn car windshield, oh well. I’m loving the gas mileage, it feels weird not to worry about getting gas after 150 miles or so. And by the way, my car’s name is Paige. It’s my FTP name in case people don’t know. paige16 to be exact.

Bose headphones are the shit. Corinne got them for me at Best Buy, and they are amazing. I only wish I had bought them earlier in life. They make music sound amazing, and have made me want to buy more music. I would wear them EVERYWHERE if I could. I took them grocery shopping the other day. Yes, I have to go grocery shopping again now that I moved out of my parent’s house.

There is a link to a new set of basketball set to release in October, AND IT BEGINS. I am SO ready to buy every damn Jeremy Lin basketball card that I possibly can.

i feel like this is a very common trend w/ bad players, they make a big 3bet preflop with ak or aq, and bet out big on flop. i was planning to shove any flop without and ace king or queen, fortunately, he got there.

LLWS

it's little league world series time, and i always seem to get hooked. Unfortunately, there are no California teams, so i'm rooting for Hawaii and Japan. Always gotta support those little japanese kids. I'm watching a winner's bracket game right now, and Chinese Taipei is beating Canada 22-0 in the 4th winning, wow. They are looking like the favorite right now.

came across this guy on youtube. i'm such a loser, but sooooo sick

once there are 4 cards to the straight, most times i just feel like just calling because i assume we are splitting, but then again, i do have the nuts, and there are some dumb-dumb people that get carried away with the ass-end of the 4 card straight.

almost forgot

I went to the giants game with scott, jill, and two of their friends against the padres last week. Scott and I made our usual prop bets like we usually do. however, there wasn't much of a sweat because i locked up a few categories in the early innings. however, we started betting on a game we call male-female. We started this at the bazaar by waiting outside the gym doors. We would bet on if a male or female would walk out of the door next. Sooooo, for the giants game, there was a little platform area where people would walk onto before they started to walk up the stairs. We decided to play, first to 25 of that gender wins, rock-paper-scissors, winner picks male or female. Male won.

Then i started to bet with jill, males go to 25, females go to 20. I think I had males one time, and there was this dumb-dumb female who ran over the platform, then quickly ran right back to where she was, tilt! Then one time, we saw what looked like a male walk up, so Jill counted male. But after further review, we weren't so sure it was a male. BUT FORTUNATELY, this person walked down our row, so I decided to squash any controversy by asking this person "where are you guys sitting?" and this person said something I don't remember, but it was clearly a male voice.

But i think the funniest part of our game was when a hooded male quickly walked up and sat down in the first few rows. Jill pretty much yelled out "What is that!?"
haha

oh, and the giants lost

august

For 2 years now, I wanted a reason to buy a new skateboard, and now I have mine. Jill offered to buy my old skateboard so she can learn. So weeee, I get to buy a new skateboard.

I bought the first 3 seasons of Weeds, hope it’s better than Friday Night Lights.
Went to the Giants game last night and ugh, we sat by the smelliest guy I’ve ever smelled before. It was very very uncomfortable, so I told andy we had to switch seats after the 4th inning. I offered a rock-paper-scissors game, loser sits by mr. smelly for the whole game, but he wasn’t in the gambling mood I guess. But giants win! 5-4

Andy showed me his new Beats headphones, and OMGeeee, I need some. I went to best buy this morning to compare the Beats vs. the Bose. I actually like the Bose better, but I’m afraid to spend about half of what my laptop costs on headphones, especially because I’m notorious for breaking/losing headphones.

While also looking for a car, I want a desktop! I’ve wanted one for about 2 years now. I can’t wait, once I get a desktop, I think I’m going to buy Hold’em Manager which is a poker tracking software. And I also need a new office chair, I think it’ll be a good investment, especially now that I’m on the computer more.

Something I’ve been thinking about recently is my investment in Tim lincecum. It’s obvious that he’s not the timmy of the past 2 years. It’s like the movie, Rookie of the year, but real. (Float it!? Mom?! Yeaaa!) But anyway, I’m not talking about the jersey that I have. I’m talking about my pokerstars picture/avatar. I thought you could change it every few months or so, but no, you can’t change it, EVER! wtf, so for as long as I play online poker, I’m going to see Tim Lincecum, I hope he turns it around soon. It is a badass picture though.

I was playing on ftp, and some guy asked me if I was a girl. I always like to play along, I said yes, and then he asked how old I was and where I was from. I said 22 and from Los Angeles. Then this fcuker asked if he could add me on facebook so that he “can see me”. Gross weirdo

bang bang

-My dad thinks this video is real, I told him “lol u”

-fun weekend with the guys! Played basketball on Wednesday, Thursday we went to eat at Emerald, then we went to Applebee’s because we wanted to eat good in the neighborhood. We of course made some bets, the most interesting one being if Steve can list all 50 states without looking at a map. He had 1 more state and everyone was looking at the list trying to figure out which state he needed to get to 50. So, this person, we’ll call Her Phil, walks up to his or her boyfriend, and whispers something into his ear, and the boy leans back and says “that’s a city”. Hahaha

-we planned to go fishing Friday morning, so after applebee’s we went to my future residence (grandma’s house) and played poker. We decided to play all night and just go around 6 or 7 in the morning. Pretty fun conversations, debates, and whatnot. The most shocking to me was the fact that scottmizuno.com says he would rather see the Lakers beat the Heat in the NBA finals. But anyway, staying up all night was not the best idea. After about 2 hours of fishing, everyone (but 2 people) were asleep, either at their poles or in the cars. When we decided to go, Scott was still sleeping at his pole, and I reeled in his line, and there was a small fish on the other end.

-I’m officially looking to buy a car, so if you know someone who is selling a car, please let me know. Currently I’m looking for a Civic or an Accord, looking for $15,000 max.

-Bazaar last weekend was fun. Forget hi-lo (rigged gambling dice game), it was way more fun to bet $5 with Scott on all the kiddie games. But, how do you lose Amaze-O 5 times in a row?! So sick. It was late, and Scott and I got to talking about Boy Meets World for some reason, I said I liked the college episodes better, and he said he liked the elementary school episodes better, so we had to make a bet. We decided on asking the question on Mick’s facebook status, first to 3 wins. I think I won 3-2. Eric is way funnier in college.

-Eat Pray Love. This is probably really gay, but I really want to watch that movie. It just inspired me to travel the world. I’m half serious, I want to travel somewhere for like 6 months or so. It has to be out of California ( I think). I just got the travel bug I guess, I would even be down to go back to Las Vegas again for a month if someone wanted to go with me. But we’ll see, Scott and I were talking about a Tahoe trip.

goodbye vegas, you bitch

I got extremely tired of blogging toward the end of the trip. But here are some bullets.
-We saw two shows at the Excalibur, Tournament of the Kings and Louie Anderson. Louie Anderson was really funny and well worth the $35 or whatever it was. It was definitely catered to an older crowd, but Steve and I still had a good time. We went to the TOK the night before and that was fun too. This definitely catered to the younger crowd (under 10), but we still had fun eating and rooting for Espana. So two nights, two shows, both didn’t cater to our age group. After Louie, we went back to the MGM to play the beginner’s game where I managed to lose $100 in about 45 minutes, lol me.
-We went to the USA blue/white scrimmage which was the best value for the entire trip. Seeing all the players up close was pretty awesome. I somehow managed to lose the damn tickets 2 days before the game, but fortunately, we printed them out at Starbucks. We obv made some bets and it came down to Steph Curry. With about 6 minutes left in the game, I think I need Curry to have 5 more points, but he was on the bench at this time. As usual, I offered a buy-out (knowing that I was the underdog). Steve politely saed no thanks. However, he came back in the game. I set the line at 13.5 points, and he had 13 with less than 2 minutes left. But he got fouled and went to shoot 2. I don’t know how, but he rimmed the first one out, and I was thinking, no way he can miss 2. However, he drained the second to give him 14, and stood up and did a fist pump, I’m pretty sure people thought I was crazy. But yeah good game, and I definitely want to go back. Oh, and Kloe Kardashian sat a row in front of us. They eventually had to move because so many people were asking to take pictures with her. No joke, she is very unattractive in real person, very bad acne and just ugh, really Lamar? really?
I really can’t remember what else we did for the last week. I started to play a lot of poker at the Stratosphere just because it was comfortable. The game is pretty nitty at times though, and usually filled with 3-5 guys that know each other. Whatever, I like playing against old nits who think they are good. I had a few good sessions over the last week. I played blackjack once at Stratosphere, and proceeded to lose $40 in no joke, probably 6 minutes. People don’t believe me, but I honestly do not like gambling that much. I like making bets, but I don’t like gambling. I’m pretty sure that makes no sense.
On the last day, we decided to try and stay up all night because we had to leave for our flight at about 9am. So we went to the Sahara and played 2-4 limit. I’ve never played limit live, but I have online. This game was awesome, no one really takes it serious, everyone is talking, joking, and having a great time. For the next 5 hours or so, I got hit in the head with the deck. I was flopping 2 pair, my big pairs were holding up, I was turning flushes, it was crazy.
-I miss Vegas, but my future trips are going to be weird for me. 4 days in Vegas? That’s way too short. I do want to go back, but I would want to only go back for a month, or nothing.
-I absolutely hate live poker. I had a few good tables, and by that I mean I enjoyed my table and had a great time talking with people. But for the most part, I just hate listening to guys talk “poker strategy” at the tables. I think the biggest part of my hatred for live poker comes from my online history. I play 3-4 tables heads up at a time, so maybe 200-300 hands for every 30 minutes. But in live poker, you get maybe 20 hands an hour?
-Steve and I went on Insanity on the top of Stratosphere. I’ve never really been scared on a ride before, but man, it was pretty scary. Dangling from the top of 108 floors high, wow.
-Overall, a great month in Vegas!
-I just watched “True Life, I’m moving to Vegas”. I love mtv

kwanzu dudes

Mimi, Jason, and Co. were in Vegas for the weekend and staying at the Venetian. The plan was to meet up at Tao because they were getting a table. However, steve and I are dumb-nuts and didn’t bring any dress shoes to Vegas. So we went to Ross and bought matching dress shoes for $30, it was cute. I think they’re called Nunn Bush, I know, wtf right? But anyway, we flipped a coin, loser pays for the shoes, I got lucky and won. We couldn’t find a taxi on our way out, so we ended up just walking in 110 degree heat!

Once we got back to Stratosphere, it was rest and sleep til we go out later. We got ready and headed to out hot spot, Sahara! One dollar blackjack, wooo. I wasn’t looking forward to paying $15 for a beer at Tao, so I wanted to have a few drinks at Sahara, We stayed there (Sahara) til 11ish, lost $20, drank some vodka-red bulls. Scott N and Steve T were going to wait in line, so Steve and I were going to play some slots to get a couple drinks for the time we had to wait in line. But it was too busy on the casino floor, so I just decided to buy some drinks at the bar (knowing that it would still be cheaper than inside Tao), so I bought 2 vodka-red bulls (me and steve) and a Blue moon for something like $40. And we went to wait in line with Scott and steve. We were in line for about 8 minutes, then some bouncer club guy says you can’t have drinks in line. I told him ok, I’ll finish this real quick, and he says I would have to step out of line if I wanted to do that. So I just said “fcuk you, I dare you do kick me out of line.” Ok, so I really said, fine, and took one last sip and handed over about $30 in alcohol, fcukkkkkkkk meeeee! This hurt so bad, especially because I’m a nit!

So we get in, and eventually meet up with Mimi and Co. at Tao Beach. I’ve been to Tao before, but not Tao Beach. I was impressed. But anyway, I finally met Jason’s twin brother Jessie. He was a little drunk and said he wanted to jump in the pool before tonight is over. I’ve heard people say things like this before and didn’t think anything of it. Until about 20 minutes later, he leans over the pool, again I think, this guy is all talk, but he leans over more and dives into the pool (which is in the middle of tao Beach). I couldn’t believe this guy actually jumped in. it was hilarious. I can’t really remember what time we left (not because I was too drunk, but I’m writing this about a week after that night), but we walked to Casino Royale where Steve was feeling a little “groggy”. We ended up heading back to the Stratosphere around 4 AM, and the taxi driver took one look at Steve and said “if your buddy throws up, I am going to charge you $100 to clean it up”. However, Steve was clutch, and it was fine. I had a great time. The end of a weekend full of visitors! Steve scott mimi Jason gordy dale and chance.

The last week all feels like one long day. Our sleep schedule is so off right now it’s crazy. Eat lunch around 2 or 3, eat dinner anywhere from 10 PM to 1AM. Ugh. But anyway, am I tired of Vegas yet? No. I want to stay another month. I am loving every day here. There is always something new we haven’t done yet. I don’t want to go back to Tracy. I know what is waiting there for me. It’s the real life, and parents that want me to get a job. I wish poker didn’t have such a bad connotation. Maybe I can’t make enough money to play full time, but what if I can? Ugh, I want to stay 22 and in Vegas forever, just kidding, not forever. The thing is, I really do want to get a job someday, but what is the rush? I’ll write more about poker and jobs if people want to hear about it, but that is all I have been thinking about lately. I think I just want to stay a “college student.” It’s weird now, when people ask where are you from? And then follow with what do you do there? It was fun saying that I was a college student from Santa Barbara. But now, just graduated in June? Grosss

I want to say thank you to everyone who has texted me over the past month. It was really cool to see that people are interested in how I was doing in Vegas. I know my updates are very lame most of the time, but thank you for the support.

I’ll finish blogging about the days after the club later. We are coming back on Wednesday, and am sad just thinking about it. oh, and who else is excited for jersey shore season 2?! best show ever, I saw the trailer and wow, looks like great television.

7/16/10

I was planning to spend time with Uncle Gordy, aunty Dale, and Chance today. We went to the Titanic Artificant musem at the Luxor. We got there a bit early (opened at 10), but I enjoyed it. It had some real interesting stories and artifacts. After, we walked to New York New York and I played in the arcade with Chance while Gordy and Dale gambled a bit. After, we went to Circus Circus to do most of the same. It was pretty sick, Chance beat me at two of the only carnival games I played at CC. I think I saw someone who had “fcuk my life” written the biggest on her forehead, she (probably in her 40s) was working the ticket counter at the Circus Circus arcades.

I got back to the hotel around 4ish, and relaxed until we met up with Steve T and Scott N at Sahara. We played $1 blackjack for hours and I booked a $30 loss, oh well, those red bull vodkas were well worth it. We ate at our Chinese restaurant, Ocha, around 3am and walked around the beautiful stratosphere until finally going to sleep around 4:30, long night, but fun.

Does anyone actually understand how penny slots work? It just seems like people love to press buttons and hear the noises the machine makes. And if it says they win, then they are happy. But man, multipliers? Lines? Progressives? Moonstackers? What exactly is going on? Whenever I see someone playing penny slots and start to win, they’re friend says “what happened?” and most of the time, the answer is “ I don’t know”. but whatever, keep burning money by playing penny slots

14 and 15th

7-14-10
Today, I went to subway (again) and got picked up by Greg and Co. We headed to the Venetian to buy Blue Man Group Tickets for that night at 10PM. But before that, we headed out to Summer League for my 3rd time.

I saw Brook and Robin Lopez sitting courtside and was pretty excited. Brook WAS one of my favorite players because I used to watch Stanford basketball, I like Centers, and he was on my fantasy basketball team this year. But wow, I went up to them, and asked for a quick picture with them. They didn’t even turn to look at me, they just stared at their phones, and Robin said “Nah”. They continued to mumble something (Kyle thinks they said that they will sign something instead), but wow, they are complete ass-wads. I am definitely no longer a fan, but I’m a fantasy sports whore, and will probably draft him again if I have to.

We also saw Al Harrington sitting courtside. I was going to ask for a picture, but he was talking to lots of people at the time. No problem though, he seemed to be really happy. He was all smiles, joking with people, and just looked like he was genuinely having a good time. Chris Webber was doing the NBATV announcing for the 2nd game I believe, cool to see him. We also saw Derrick Rose sitting courtside wearing a Dodger hat. And yes, he does look every bit as dumb as he does on television (“think you got what it take?”).

John Wall was signing! The first day I saw him, he did not sign anything for any fans. But today, he was signing for fans for a long time. To the point where there were no fans waiting to get things signed. I had him sign two 8x10s for me. But my greedy tendencies kicked in and I wish I had about 8 more pictures to get signed. We also saw Wesley Johnson (4th overall pick) in street clothes. He was extremely nice and signed my 8x10 and took a picture with me. There was this fat geeky kid who had a shit-ton of 8x10s of all the players, and Wesley signed about 7 of them in a row for him. So yeah, rooting for Wesley Johnson this year.

We were sitting by the entrance to the locker rooms today, and every so often a player would come out, and throw his jersey or shoes at some little kids. Unfortunately, we didn’t get a chance to get any. Oh, and after the 3rd quarter, we were asked to participate in the entertainment by playing this “jersey switch “ game on the court. All 4 of us participated, and we beat the other team of 4 people, and we each won $10 giftcards to the NBA store. cool

After summer league, we ate in the food court at Venetian and saw the Blue Man Group at 10PM. I really like the show. It was very entertaining and very interactive. It was definitely worth the $50 or so it cost. (student discount)

7/15/10
Today, we had lunch at Serendipity 3 at Caesar’s Palace. I had the NY hot dog, and it was pretty awesome. We again headed to NBA summer league for my 4th day. The day was a lot less action-filled than yesterday because there were no real huge names walking around. However, Chris Webber was back. Russell Westbrook and Brandon Jennings showed up for John Wall’s game. I got a picture with Russell Westbrook, but I didn’t approach Brandon Jennings. Portland was the last game, and I got Elliot Williams’s (1st round draft pick) autograph.

John Wall was very unimpressive, I knew he had a bad game but was very surprised to see that he shot 4-19 or something like that. He had a very ugly 21 points. But damn, Jeremy lin stole the show. He had the whole crowd rooting for him. He had a breakaway dunk which got the crowd going. He almost had an And 1 which was called an offensive foul, and the crowd starting boo’ing louder than I’ve heard in all 4 days. He even defended John Wall pretty well. One time they were isolated on the wing, and Jeremy defended him very well and forced John to throw up an ugly jumpshot, barely touching the rim. I was very disappointed in John Wall’s body language. It seemed very clear that as soon as he didn’t have a “good” game, that he sort of gave up and wasn’t trying as hard. He seemed embarrassed that Jeremy Lin was attracting the attention of the fans.

After summer league, we went to the M Casino for their buffett. Supposedly, they won an award for the best buffett in Las vegas. We started to wait in line and it seemed pretty long. I proposed to Nick that we make a bet regarding what time we will be seated. We set the rules and they were: As soon as the cashier touches our credit card, is ‘the time’. The bet was only $5, and we played rock-paper-scissor, loser sets the line, the winner picks over or under (before or after). I lost, and debated for a good 5 minutes, It was 8 O’clock I think, and I decided to set the line 8:47. All I was hoping for was that he didn’t insta-choose the before or after. I at least wanted to make a decent line, and make him think about it. Fortunately, for me, he did have to think about it, but eventually picked the before. (side note, Greg and Kyle chose 8:43 and 8:45, so I was happy about that). But unfortunately, the line started to move pretty quickly. So obviously, I wanted a buy out, there was a zero percent chance that I would win. But then, Nick offered this proposition: I could buy 5 minutes for every dollar, up to 20 minutes. I debated, but took his offer. At this point, the new time was 8:27 and I still had the over, I could lose $9 or win $1. Long story short, we get served at 8:28. Lame story

Dinner was pretty good, with all you can drink beer and wine. After dinner, we all decided to play some “johnny lodden thinks”. It’s basically me betting with person A on what person B thinks of something. For our first bet, Nick and Kyle bet on what I thought the capacity of the buffet was. I looked around and did a little calculation, and set my number at 266 I think. Nick took 300-ish and kyle took 500-ish, so Nick shipped the $5. However, the actual capacity was 1,062 I think.

One of the more memorable bets was “how many sexual partners has Kobe Bryant had?” We had Nick set the number, and Kyle and I bet on it, wager-ing style. Nick set his number and told Greg. But, Nick being Nick (unpredictable), we concluded that it could be 2 (wife and girl he raped) to 400 and nowhere in between. I think I took the over, but his number was low (less than 10).

For our last bet, we decided on my favorite bet of all time, the ‘how many days, months, years would you give up off the end of your life to spend a week with you dream girl?’. I don’t want to use names just in case this person doesn’t want their answer to be public. So we decided to ask Nick. . I took the under on 3 and a half years, Kyle took the over. His answer? 12 years. Lost that bet, got swept in my own game.

Bet $30 on the under, angels vs. Seatle, lost that one

Anohther example of how NOT to get value from your big hands, he flops the nuts and checks back the flop and turn, and only min-raises the river. You’re cute enana

This guy completely owned me. I’m not sure if he meant to bet for value or a bluff, but either way, I was impressed by his bet. I thought he would bet a 10 on the turn, so I didn’t put him on a 10. And I didn’t think he would value bet a pair of nines, but he owned, nothing else I could say I guess.

I was very close to 5-betting the flop, and maybe I should have to get value from his hands with just a 3 in it. But I wanted to let him continue to bluff if he is indeed bluffing. But, my normal line there is to 5-bet the flop.

I bought internet ($11.99) today because live poker sucks lol. I played pretty much all day starting at noon, and was pretty breakeven for most of the day, but hit a little card rush toward the end of the day and booked about a $250 win. That helped a little after the disaster at Venetian.

Greg, Greg’s brother Kyle, and Greg’s friend Nick got into town around 3 and they picked me up for dinner around 6ish. We had this pho place near the rio. It was very solid, and even more delicious because I won credit card roulette, I think Nick and Kyle lost. After dinner, we stopped by the RIO to check out the WSOP main event. It was near the money bubble, so the room was extremely packed. We finally got a view of the action, and I saw my biggest man-crush I’ve ever had, Mr. Patrik Antonius (google him). He was looking studly as always. He was in a hand, and the ESPN cameras came over to film it, and I stood right behind him, so maybe I’ll be on TV.

Greg made an uh-oh at dinner. As we were preparing for credit card roulette, we decided to use driver’s licenses instead of actual credit cards. But Greggy left his ID at home, ouch. But, it was probably a good idea because it saved him from potential gambling losses. But ouch. I also bet on the All star game. I put $20 on the American league, and cringed as they blew a couple chances to put some runs on the board. Blah blah

12th

7-12-10

Today, we planned to attend our 2nd day of NBA’s summer league at UNLV. The first game we saw was Lakers at the Knicks. Steve and I wanted to make a few bets on the games to make it more interesting. We played rock-paper-scissors, loser sets the line, winner picks the side. I lost, and make the Lakers 6.5 point favorites, Steve laughs and insta-chooses Knicks and says they will win straight up. Of course, he’s right and it wasn’t even close.

The second game was more interesting, Kings at Pistons. The Kings were stacked with Omri, Cousins, Donte Green, and Hasaan Whiteside. I lost rock paper scissor, and made the Kings 11.5 point favorites, Steven paused shortly and picks the Kings. The Kings dominated this game and won by about 20-something. All of the Kings players looked really solid. The Maloof brothers sat right in front of us. And there was this old guy we saw the first day that seemed to know everybody. We saw him again today, and he sat to my right and asked me to save his seat once. I finally got to see his nametag, and he turned out to be Maloof Sr. Still trying to hate on Greg Monroe, and he was extremely unimpressive again today. Also, he turned down autograph requests for the 2nd time this trip, so he’s an ass-wad.

The next game was Mavericks vs. the Bucks. No real big names here, unless you count Jeremy Lin. He played extremely well today and I can only hope the best for him. Fortunately (for me), we didn’t bet on this game.

The last game was easily the most-hyped game we’ve seen so far. The Wizards were playing the Clippers, our first look at John Wall. The gym was packed and John Wall didn’t disappoint the fans. During warmups, he was playing up to the crowd with crazy looking dunks. He led the Wizards to a pretty healthy lead and they never looked back. Steve set the line for his (Wall’s) point total at 16, and I took the over. At halftime, he had 15 and I was looking like a lock. In the 3rd quarter, he didn’t score in the first 6 or so minutes (10 minute quarters), so I was getting little scared that they would pull him out. He finally scored a layup and got fouled to put his point total at 18 to give me my first win. He was taken out of the game shortly after that, so Steve set a very good line.

My impressions of John Wall is that he is the real deal. Before today, I never really thought he was worth the hype. I’ve seen him play at Kentucky and thought he was good, but I never thought he was dominant or anything. But tonight, he could get any shot he wanted, whenever he wanted. And more importantly, he got his shooters wide open looks whenever he was in the game. He had lots of swagger, that’s for sure. He was dancing, flexing his muscles after his and 1’s, and smiling after every good play or good pass. He’s definitely very cocky, which I guess any great player needs.
There was a big Clipper fan (literally) in the crowd who was very vocal. He yelled things like “over-rated”. But, during the 1st quarter, John Wall took a pretty hard hit and was slow to get up. The Clipper fan shouted “Welcome to the NBA John Wall, over-rated!”. As John Wall stepped up to take his 2 free throw shots, he made the first one, and looked back at the big Clipper fan and stared at him for a good 2 seconds. The crowd loved it. However, why would he acknowledge the heckler? No matter what happened after that, the heckler already won. The clipper fan got into his head, even though it obviously didn’t affect him, I thought that it was pretty immature, and I doubt he’ll ever react to a heckler again.

Autograph-wise. I got 2 autographs from Hasaan Whiteside of the Kings. He played very well today, he probably had like 4 or 5 nice blocks. I got a picture with Jrue Holliday, Rudy Gay, Hasheem thabeet, and Al Fariq-Aminu? of the Clippers (top 10 pick). Glen Davis was watching today, but I didn’t get a picture with him.
It’s real interesting how much the NBA is like a fraternity. Every tall and/or rich guy seemed to have some affiliation with an NBA team. We sat right behind reporter, David Aldridge. And I swear, every 15 minutes, a tall and/or rich-looking guy would tap him on the shoulder, and David would say “Hey brother, How’s it going blah blah blah.”

10th and 11th

7-10-10

Today Steve and I hung out with Corinne and Kendyl on the Strip. We met them at Caesars’s and played blackjack at Bally’s for about an hour. I was down about $40 but then managed to book a $2 win, Corinne made a $100 and was “stoked”. We decided to try another place because everyone was either up or even. So we played blackjack at the next $5 table we saw, at shitty O’sheas. Corinne and Kendyl both lost there, but I managed to break even again. I’m noticing a trend, I like to play blackjack, but I always get stuck right off the bat, and then when I get back even, it feels like a “win”, and then I call it quits.

But after that, we all take the monorail back to the Hilton to see their hotel room. I was very impressed with it, the hotel and everything looked pretty old, but the rooms were very nice. We end up going to eat at Trevi in the Forum Shops at Caesar’s which was a decent Italian restaurant. After, Kendyl really wanted to see Kathy Griffin’s stand up at Caesar’s. She was pretty entertaining, but not Russell Peters-status.

After, Steve and I walked to Bally’s to try their poker room out. I wasn’t impressed, it was extremely loud the whole time we were there, and the players we’re all pretty nitty. But fortunately, I hit quad queens and won a “high hand” jackpot worth an additional $100, so that was nice.

In my other big hand, there were 2 limpers (one was an old guy in a “WSOP” hat), I have JJ and raise up to $15, both limpers call. And the flop is KJ6, no flush draw. I bet like $10 I think, pretty small bet, but there’s not that many scary turn cards. The old WSOP-fart just calls, and the turn is a 2. I bet $30 because I need to make some money. True to form, he min raises (WHICH IS NEVER A BLUFF, if I had aces, I would throw up all over the table, and fold), so I pause, and shove, he of course calls, and shows his pocket twos and I scoop the pot. There’s nothing I like more than stacking an old guy in a WSOP hat.

We played til 2:30 in order to catch the monorail, and I book a $220 win. For the 2nd time in 3 days, we had Chinese food and I lost credit card roulette, so Steve’s pad thai? was my treat. I didn’t really know this happened in the summer, but it started to rain around 3:30 when we were walking back to the Stratosphere. Weird.

So at Bally’s, to be completely honest, the cocktail waitresses were the worst that I have seen so far. This one cocktail waitress was extremely rude to our table every time she asked for drinks, and she was not attractive, so she didn’t have any reason to be rude. But there was this one cocktail waitress, who was probably pushing 60 years old. If I had to set an honest line, I would say 57.5 years old, it was just gross because of what she was wearing. Just ugh.

7-11-10
Went to the gym today, and then went to the sportsbook to watch the Soccer final between Spain the the Netherlands. Vamos Espana! Bodog gave me a free $10 bet before the World Cup started, and I bet it on Spain to win $37.50.

Steve had one of the best ideas I’ve heard in a long time. When we were playing blackjack at Bally’s, if you were a dealt a blackjack, they give you “party beads”. However, after we had our beads on, we played poker, and at the poker tables, we looked like noobs. We just look like random tourists who had fun at the blackjack tables, and then wanted to try out some poker. I think this idea is brilliant. And today, once I sat down at the Venetian, this guy makes a comment and says “look at those beads, must be having a good vacation?” I said “yeah, just having fun”. Maybe I’m over thinking this, but it is always better for people at the poker tables to think I’m just there having fun, instead of thinking that I’m there to make some monies (which is of course, is the truth)

But yeah, today was rough. I bet on the Dodgers, run line (-1.5), at +155, $30 to win $46.5. The dodgers killed the Cubs, so that was nice. But the fun stopped there. I bought in for $240 at the Venetian, and stayed even for about an hour, and then I limp on the button after a couple limpers with 96. The flop is K78, rainbow. Young guy bets 10, I call, another caller, and I call as well. Turn is a beautiful 10, giving me a straight. Young guy bets $15, I raise $40 MORE. Young guy calls. I have about $100 left and the pot is about $140. River is a King (not a very good card for me), he checks, I shove my last $100. He actually sighs, checks his cards, and calls, and tables K10 for a rivered full house. Normally, I would get mad at this guy for somewhat “slowrolling” me, but I think he honestly was scared to put the money in and honestly didn’t know he had the nuts. He was a pretty nice guy, so I just said “nice hand” and then I went to go eat dinner. I think there is an argument for betting a little less on the river, than folding to a raise (bet/fold). For example, I could have bet about $60 and just folded to a raise (and save that extra $40), but I think he’s just as likely to have 3 kings, than a full house. And with weaker players, if he has KQ (just 3 queens), and I bet $60, he might shove thinking he has the best hand, and then now what do I do? So, I like my shove there, I could be wrong though.

I came back after dinner, untilted, and ready to play. However, about an hour into the session, I raise under the gun to $10 with red kings, Canadian Asian player raises to $40, button calls, I shove all in, Asian player folds, the guy on the button (had about $120) calls me. He tabled AA, and I said fcuk me. He was actually a nice guy too, so I didn’t get upset or anything. So, yeah, lost $363 in both sessions. But to be honest, I’m happy about how I played. I don’t want to worry about things that are out of my control (the cards). Oh well, I get to see John Wall tomorrow, so I’m pretty excited about that.

Steve decided to play downstairs at the Strat and texted me saying it was the softest table that he has ever played. I told him I wasn’t really in the mood but he convinced me by saying we would split our action 50%. However, I suck at poker, and to make a long story short, I lost, but Steve won, so I ended up losing about $70ish in that late night session. Blah blah, it was a good spot though.
