Madison Bumgarner looks like a Madison

I went to the Giants vs. Red Sox game yesterday with Corinne. Scott told me he was going so of course I proposed we make some prop bets. We bet on 9 categories and he beat me 5-4. I thought I was looking good at the beginning.
I had: Madison Bumgarner (he's so goofy looking) pitches 5.2 innings and less and over 1.5 home runs.

He gave up two home runs and 3 runs within the first 2 innings. So I locked up the home run category, and I thought for sure Bumgarner wouldn’t last past 5 innings. But, he surprised me by pitching very solid past 5.2 innings. I couldn’t get an error or another double play, so there goes $20. Bumgarner looked good though, so that was cool to see. I was also shocked how many Red Sox fans were there. I’d say 1 in 6 fans were Red Sox fans.

Soccer tilts me. It desperately needs instant replay, especially for the World Cup. I’ve only watched a few games, but there has been so many damn missed calls. And it’s not just me saying they are missed calls, the announcers are saying they are horrible calls. I woke up early to watch the England game today, they were down 1-2, and had a ball clearly go in the goal, but the ref didn’t see it go in. It was complete bull shit. ESPN predicted 1.5 to 2 billion would be wagered on the entire World Cup. I just don’t understand how the refs can miss so many huge calls. It’s rigged.

strasburg craze

a couple weeks ago a card of strasburg sold for $16,000

Nick Papa Georgio?

I Can’t wait to watch the nba draft tomorrow. However, I have very low expectations for the Warriors, seriously. Last year, we ran way above expectation (ev) by drafting Steph Curry when he fell to us at the 7th pick.

Jimmy’s days are numbered. My car has been making funny noises for a couple months now and I finally took it into a shop to see what was going on. They got said the transmission had to be replaced and they would cost more than
the car is worth. Therefore, he suggested to drive it til it does. I’ll definitely miss Jimmy, so many memories. So I'm officially looking for a car.

The summer before college, I heard my friend Jerry talk about Skype. I finally downloaded it and it’s pretty much the coolest thing ever. I video-chatted with Nicky yesterday.

I'm getting the new iphone after I get back from Vegas.

Entourage is about to start. But I probably won’t watch since I don’t get HBO. However, here is a really interesting countdown. 100 Hottest women to appear on Entourage: http://www.brobible.com/story/13158932/100-hottest-women-entourage

I’ve mentioned to my parents that I have thought about playing poker full-time and not getting a “real” job. As expected, they gave me the whole we-think-you-should-get-a-real job speech. Blah blah blah. I’m starting to take poker more seriously, and it’s been going very well the past week. I’ll probably write more about this later.

Vegas update. Steven and I made a goal, 28 days, $10,000 (profit between the two of us). It’s just a stupid goal to work toward. However, the amount of poker we are going to play is anyone’s guess. There are lots of people visiting Vegas this summer, so we’ll see.

Fun Fact: Hawaii does not have daylight savings.

hmm, I forgot how long this was into the match. But, I just don't see how he does this without a straight. It's a close spot, but i think his most likely holdings were 910 or 95 for higher straights. Maybe I should've called.

slowrollin

The most talked about hand in a while now.
I’ve listened to two podcasts where they talk about this hand.

2p2’s podast: They pretty much thought Phil was a douchebag for his actions. They basically thought that as a pro, Phil knew what Ernest had. He knew Ernest had a good hand and that he was just acting for the cameras. They thought there was a 0% chance that Ernest would fold after he raised to $36,000. They felt he should have just paused quickly, and raised enough to put Ernest all in. Furthermore, they thought what Phil was saying was out of line.

Pokerstatic’s podcast: They pretty much disagreed completely with the 2p2 podcast. They are Daniel Negreanu haters, and thought that Daniel and Phil Laak were out of line in attacking Phil. They felt that it was not a “slowroll”. They felt that Phil was just thinking out loud and acted the way he did in order to get the rest of Ernest’s money. They also thought it was rude for Phil Laak and Daniel to cheer after Phil lost 3 out of 4.

First what is a slowroll? Here is an extreme example of a slowroll: when Player A bets after the river, and and Player B calls. Player A shows his hand, a straight. Player B, rolls his eyes (indicating he has a worst hand), then shows his cards, a flush. It’s probably one of the biggest douchebag moves in poker.

Here is my opinion, I don’t think Phil slowrolled Ernest. However, I think his actions were unnecessary and a borderline dick-move. This hand was probably on the 3rd episode of this show. Ernest is a very poor player, just a very passive calling station. Therefore, if he shows any aggression, he always had it. (I like his amateur-ish head movement before he raised to $36,000)
So when he raises to 36k, he is NEVER folding, and I think the whole table knew it. But I think the most important thing is this: only average to good players notice slight slow-rolls. Recreational players do not recognize light-slowrolls. Ernest, was completely oblivious to the situation. If I was Ernest, I would be pretty upset, Phil’s speech wasn’t necessary. Phil said “he may have tens full.” That’s complete bullshit, that shouldn’t even be relevant. If Ernest has pocket tens, then it’s a cooler, a cold deck. And as a pro, Phil should just shrug it off. But anyway, it was pretty crazy for Ernest to win 3 out of 4.

batting stances

andy showed me this last night. i thought it was funny

ivey ivey ivey

there's really doubt debate anymore (not sure if there was any to begin with)

Phil Ivey is the best poker player in the world. He just won his 8th bracelet this morning. $3k horse. The speculation is going to start on how much money he is going to win off just side bets. Dwan came in second earlier in the series, and Matusow claimed that if he had won it, it would have been worth up to 10 mirrrrrion dollars.

kind of a nice flop there, i had no idea what to do on the flop and turn, it's not too often you get check-min raised on the flop and turn. dirty river card

-I overheard my Dad say "you're a weirdo" to my Mom and couldn't stop laughing.

-I really really don't like writing thank-you cards. That doesn't mean I'm not thankful for the graduation cards, but I just hate writing ty cards. I wish I could just send out a mass text message saying thank you so much!!

-I was going to post about graduation and all of that, but I just kind of lost the motivation and thoughts while I was at Nicky's house spending time with her family. Maybe i'll post something later.

-VEGAS! It's coming. Ah, so much to think about, but i'm getting pretty damn excited!
Lots and lots of ideas I need to discuss with steve. Some rules i want to make:
1) no pit games unless friends are in town (blackjack, roulette)
2) we have to work out every other day or so, I'm not trying to gain 10 pounds
3) Was thinking about making a goal like last year's TV show "2 months, 2 million"
maybe 1 month, $10,000? $5,000?
4) Last longer bet in a cash game, Phil Laak recently broke the world record by playing 115 hours straight, i'm thinking I can do at least 20.

-My laptop is nearly dead and should be the owner of a new one in less than a week.

it's jamie's birthday!

I understand that the refs are trying to control the game by calling very light fouls here and there. But man, I wonder what would happen if I call some of those fouls in an intramural game. My own team would be embarrassed if I made some of those calls.

There's a big difference between saying "Kobe sucks" and "I hate Kobe". No, Kobe does not suck, and yes, I hate Kobe. As much as I love anti-laker fans, I just think it's annoying when they say "Yeah, Kobe Sucks". I don't really want to argue, but I just want to tell them that "Um, you're wrong."

Also, this hasn't happened recently, but when I used to talk to Ryan (my friend from high school who claims he is a Laker "fan" even though he was born and raised in Tracy and is a Giants, 49ers fan hmm?), our conversations went something like this.
me: I hate Kobe
ryan: What are you talking about, he is sooo good.
me: I never said he wasn't good, I just said I hate him
ryan: What are you talking about? He is the best player in the league, look how many rings he has
me: Ok, i know how many rings he has won, but I just don't like him, i mean, he rapes white girls (i know i know, he didn't rape her)
ryan: Whatever man, you like the Warriors, when's the last time they made it to the playoffs?

same conversations, different day. I remember talking to him one day, and he said he liked Malone as a Laker more than Shaq. I couldn't believe what he was saying, he said it was because "Shaq can't even shoot free throws". I hope all Laker fans do not agree with this.

So yeah, Kobe is damn good, but that doesn't mean I have to like him. And Scott: Jt and I were watching the game and when Pau made some key shots to stop the Celtics comeback, we were commenting that he was playing like Al Jefferson out there.

speaking of kobe

i always tell bassy not to slowplay, and this is exactly why, the match should have been over on the turn, and if not the turn, on the river for sure.

market or grocery store?

Albertson’s, Safeway (Vons as Southern California calls it lol u), Ralph’s, Food4less.

To me, these are grocery stores. Before I came to college, these were called grocery stores. However, I’m not sure if it’s an LA thing (or a Tracy thing), but people call them markets. When I think of markets, I think of fish market or a shopping center. It just sounds different to me.

“I’m going to the market”

byahhhh

Bryce Harper- Maybe some people don’t know, but he is a 17-year old baseball player from Las Vegas who is expected to be the first overall MLB draft pick on Monday. He skipped his last 2 years of high school to enroll in a junior college in order to be eligible for this year’s draft.

-I think his parents are stupid. I would like to think that I would make my son at least finish high school at the very minimum. Yes, everything worked out fine so far and they are looking at a big payday very soon. But what kind of an example is this? Every young kid with above average talent will put all of their time into baseball to try and be the next Bryce Harper.

-I don’t know anything about clubhouses and baseball players off the field, but is he going to get any respect at all? Much like Billy Heywood in Little Big League, everyone is going to think he’s a joke. If I’m a 30-year old baseball player, am I really going to respect an 18-year old millionaire? Nah. Maybe he’s really mature and hardworking, but from the articles I’ve read, he’s very immature. Yes, he probably IS immature, and he is being judged for that. But man, he’s only 17. Geez, I don’t even want to think about my actions as a 17-year old.

-I love hype, and can’t wait to see him play.

world record attempt

Phil laak is trying to play poker for 80 straight hours to break a world record set at 78 I think. He's currently at the Bellagio playing 10/20 NL holdem. I wonder how long I could play for? I am going to Vegas this summer and I will probably have some extra time to play. Prop bet Steve?

If I had to honestly set a line, I'm not a super grinder, so I'd set the line at 20 hours straight.

-
And will anyone be at the Dodger game tonight when it's the same time as the Laker game?

Will Kobe Bryant win more championships than Michael Jordan?

Yes +400
No -350
Tied +190

What a dumbass bet. Win or lose, this bet will not be paid out for another 3-5 years. So basically, Bodog gets to hold on to your money for multiple years and you lose out on the possible interest or whatever else you could be doing with your money.
