pay that man

i want to be a part time ticket scalper
by now, most people have heard of the Legends of summer tour. jay z and timberlake's summer tour, 12 different cities in july/august. with a stop at candlestick in late july

so here we go. with jessica's help, i was able to get my hands on 8 tickets, maybe 12, but pretty sure 8. here are some thoughts...

-this concert is going to be big. lots and lots of hype. i'm almost sure it will sell out because: there are only 2 west coast stops (SF and LA) with only 12 stops total. people love jay z and people love timberlake. BUT, as scottmizuno.com mentioned, candlestick is big

-i just feel like the demand will be too high. they are both superstars. and since there is only 1 Norcal show, people will travel. sacramento people will travel, fresno people will travel...right? i mean, if you live in Seattle and love timberlake, why not spend the weekend in SF and catch the show?

-the tour was announced just last week, and it's slowly taking over my life. i'm being 70percent serious.  a couple times a day i check ticketmaster to see which tix are still avail (tix go on sale to the public on the 28th), i check stubhub and craigslist to see how much people want for their pre-sale tix.

-buying tickets like this is very similar to a preseason futures bet. say you bet the over/under Cavaliers win total before the season. every day, you have a box score to check and you keep your eye on any Cavalier news. will it be a winner? will it be a loser? any possible hedges?

-so back to taking over my life. i've thought to myself what would have to happen for the ticket's value to drop dramatically? well, let's say a month before the show, timberlake gets very sick and cancels the SF show, and Ne-yo is the replacement. ticket values plummet. or, since its an outdoor event, perhaps there's some type of weird storm in late july. what would make the tix value increase? how about a month before the show, they announce that bieber and rhianna will open the shows. ticket values UP

-people might think its crazy to buy so many tickets without knowing for sure if you can profitably flip them or not. i hear you...BUT, if people are not paying a premium for the tix, i feel like it wouldn't be that hard to sell on Craigslist at face value, basically scratching. i feel like the risk is very low. (selling things on craigslist is safe, right?)

-i guess my biggest risk, and something i'm legitimately worried about, is what if i misplace my tickets. the thought of it scares me, legitimately. if i lose the tix, i might go crazy. i wouldn't be able to sleep that's for sure and i wouldn't be able to concentrate on anything work-related.

-so we'll see, the unfortunate part is that i'm going to have to sit on these tickets for at least 3-4 months probably

-i have ADD. i want 50 tickets!! my dream is....2 weeks before the event, it's sold out and people are posting on craigslist "NEED 2 TICKETS TO LEGENDS OF SUMMER. WILL PAY 2X FACE"         thirsty!

-ice breaker moment. i'm grant, i'm an equity options trader and a part time ticket scalper..
-it's a small gamble, and i love everything about it.
