This hand was from the last episode of High Stakes Poker. A lot of people don’t really know Lex Veldhuis. But he is a legit high stakes online player that goes by the name of “Raszi”. He is also dating Evelyn Ng, a semi-good looking asian poker player. Forget all the talk about ranges, bet sizes, percentages, and table images. Ivey just owns Lex. Barry opens for a standard raise (he could have anything), Ivey raises pretty large from the button. Ivey’s range is obviously any two cards. Therefore, I think Lex reads the situation perfectly, but I guess a “good play” can’t beat the best player in the world. You can’t talk ranges with Phil Ivey, all you can say is that his range is huge. And here is proof. Making a 5-bet bluff all in with 5-2offsuit just proves that his range is any two cards at (almost) any given time.
This is another hand Ivey hand. I usually don’t give much respect to tournament hands because it’s just “play” chips, and not real CashMoney. But this was a big tournament in Monte Carlo, with $1 million going to first. The ‘reads’ were amazing in this hand. But the most significant part of this hand is this. It’s ONE thing to have the correct read, but it’s another thing to actually commit to that read. How many players would say “oh, nice bluff” and then much their cards. I would. Five or Six raises on the flop! What is Ivey’s range? In my opinion, its any two cards.
I just like this hand because I think it’s funny when Daniel loses.
